~ Miami's Metrorail Station at Vizcaya & Village

This was a group project with team members: August DeWinkler, Anthony Matonti, Diego Ruiz, and Ricardo Trujillo. The project was to pick a Metrorail station in Miami and to create a Transit-Oriented Development along with enhancements to revitalize the area. Our group picked the Vizcaya Station as it sits at the threshold of historic and modern downtown Miami. Combining preliminary research with solution concepts; the group decided to create a unique Metrorail station and shopping village as a gateway linking the past with the future. It was also important to physically link the station as a sustainable corridor with the tourist destination of Vizcaya and Coral Way's shopping district. The station is modeled after our precedent study's Sagrado Corazon of the San Juan Tren Urbano. Vizcaya Village was created with SketchUp models from Latin cities around the world. Supertrees of Gardens by the Bay in Singapore symbolically landmark the gateway from old to new. A special thanks is given to Anthony Matonti for providing an exceptional amount of work and for Ricardo Trujillo in acting as a group moderator.
