Nano technologies by researchers are being funded by the United States Government and will become an industry for the near future.  Interestingly are the surveys taken amongst the public about trust in the technology from its funding source and has left the public skeptical about its implications.  The conducted surveys are actually guiding the research and its development.  It is anticipated that social media and wiki sites will be instrumental in restoring the public’s faith on the deployment of nano technologies.

“The Myth of Immateriality: Presenting and Preserving New Media”

Author:

Christiane Paul

Book:

Media Art Histories, Grau, Chapter 13, Page 251

Comments:

“Just because it is digital, it does not mean that it will last forever”; should be the title of this article.  After all just what are the material components of this art?  Aside from ones and zeros in binary as the source code for digital art, a discussion evolves as how to treat the presenting and preservation of new media art.  The article states that it is this connection that we must look for a determination.  Another question stems from the viewers point of viewer and that is the length of time one spends with digital art, thus making availability a factor as art can be stored and retrieved over the internet thus making the artwork non-linear.
